Breast Surgery for Uneven Breasts

Jul 3, 2015 | 2. Blog

Are you one of the many women who have one breast slightly (or not so slightly) larger than the other? Or maybe one nipple sits lower?

This is nothing to be too concerned about and you will find that almost all females on the planet have one breast that is different in some way to the other. This is in fact, completely normal. For some women, the difference can be quite noticeable and their breasts may even be two different cup sizes. This exposes some issues as it can affect self-confidence and cause stress. It also limits the bras, swimsuits and clothing you can wear in an effort to not draw attention to your uneven chest.

What causes Asymmetrical Breasts?

Possible contributors to uneven or asymmetrical breasts include hormonal changes, breastfeeding, pregnancy, fluctuating weight, sagging skin after weight loss, genetics, medications or traumatic injuries. We understand that significant cases of uneven breasts can be embarrassing and uncomfortable, so if the difference is extreme and affects you both in and out of clothing, there are a variety of surgical resolutions that can help you feel more comfortable and confident in your appearance.

Plastic Surgery to Correct Asymmetry

In most cases, Plastic Surgery can assist in correcting asymmetry. The necessary procedure you require is tailored to your individual need and will depend on which symptoms you have such as: uneven breast size, different nipple size or shape, uneven nipple position and different breast shapes and conditions. It’s important to note that some cases may require two separate procedures to both breasts – such as a Nipple Lift and Breast Augmentation, or Breast Reduction and Implants.

Some questions to consider and discuss with your Surgeon are whether the smaller breast needs to be made bigger with an implant, or whether the larger breast should be reduced. If the asymmetry of your breasts is only minor (one breast slightly smaller than the other) in most cases symmetry can be achieved by using Breast Augmentation for uneven breasts with two different sized Implants, however, this cannot be guaranteed.

Surgery Options

A Breast Lift with or without Augmentation is a great solution to enhance the contour, firmness and appearance of the breasts. However, there is a range of alternative procedures and techniques that may suit your case.

The selection of surgical options CosMediTour offer to help correct the breast alignment is:

It is normal to still have some Asymmetry Post Surgery

Your Surgeon will take as many measures as possible to ensure your breasts are even, but perfect symmetry is never guaranteed and you must have realistic expectations. Every person heals differently and during the first 6 months post-surgery, your breasts may settle at different rates. You must allow 6 – 12 months post-surgery to see your final surgical outcome.

(Please note that only standard Breast Augmentation cases are available on the Gold Coast. For all other cases we offer surgery in Thailand.)

Another option for more minor breast asymmetry correction that doesn’t require surgery is buying bras with removable padding and simply remove the padding from the larger side. Every woman is different and unique so if the asymmetry doesn’t bother you, embrace it!
