What You Need To Know About Getting Surgery Ready

Your health is our absolute priority at CosMediTour. To ensure your safety and to help you achieve the best possible outcome, there are some very important things you need to do in preparation for your surgery in Thailand. If you require clarity about any of the items listed below, please contact your Client Manager.
Travel Ready

YOUR MEDICAL HISTORY

You must let us know about all of your medical conditions and medications. No matter how small a condition may seem to you, you must tell us about it so that we have a complete picture of your physical and mental health. For example, you may not think that having minor anxiety is worth mentioning; however, we must know. Please consider your health history (past and present) and be open with us about it.

Please be aware that in some cases, we may require a medical clearance from your GP or Specialist.

SUPPLEMENTS & MEDICATIONS

There are a range of vitamins, supplements, and medications that you must stop taking 2 weeks before your surgery and not resume taking until 2 weeks after surgery.

Unless you have been advised otherwise by your Surgeon or General Practitioner, DO NOT TAKE:

  • ANY vitamins
  • ANY supplements – Importantly, if you have been directed by your General Practitioner or a Specialist to take an Iron, Calcium or Folic Acid supplement, you must consult with them before stopping your medication
  • ANY Nurofen, Nurofen Plus, or any Ibuprofen or anti-inflammatory medication.
  • ANY Aspirin, Disprin, or Aspro Clear
  • ANY blood thinning medication – Importantly, if you have been directed by your General Practitioner or a Specialist to take a blood thinning medication, you must consult with them before stopping a medication

SMOKING & VAPING

Please note that you must not smoke cigarettes, marijuana or any kind of vaping in the 6 weeks before and after surgery. Please be aware that your Surgeon may perform a nicotine test, and if present, your surgery may be cancelled. Smoking Blog

COVID-19 CLEARANCE FOR SURGERY

  • Complete a COVID-19 test before travelling to Thailand, even if you are not exhibiting any symptoms. Remember also that patients can test positive for up to three months after a previous infection.
  • If you test positive before travelling, please contact your Client Manager to discuss surgery amendment options – please note our Cancellation & Amendment Policy applies.
  • Rescheduling your surgery will also depend on your health, the availability of your Surgeon and the hospital, and the nature of your surgery, as some procedures (ie Rhinoplasty) may require a more extended period post-infection.

ALCOHOL

To optimise your recovery, it is strongly recommended that you do not drink any alcohol for at least 2 weeks pre and post-surgery.

SURGERY & YOUR WEIGHT

Our Surgeons always recommend being your ideal weight before surgery for the best possible outcome and maintaining weight post-surgery. Fluctuations will affect your overall results. Your Body Mass Index, or ‘BMI,’ must be below 30* to be accepted for surgery in Thailand. To learn about these important criteria for surgery. Am I a Suitable Weight for Surgery Blog

* Please note that the exception to this rule is weight loss surgery clients, in which case your BMI must be higher than 35.

Please let your Client Manager know if you are on a weight management journey. Additionally, if you experience a fluctuation in your weight of 5kg or more, please let us know as soon as possible.

PREGNANCY & BREASTFEEDING

Pregnancy can affect the outcome of your surgery. Surgeons recommend holding off on surgery until you have completed your family. Please be aware that you must be 9 – 12 months postpartum to have surgery.

MAMMOGRAM REQUIREMENTS

If you are 40 or older, you must provide a mammogram result within 6 months of your surgery date.

POST-SURGERY SUPPORT GARMENTS

Whilst some procedures include a basic post-surgery support garment, others don’t. We highly recommend purchasing garments before you travel to Thailand so that you have spares available. You will find a range of garments available online.

TATTOOS AND PLASTIC SURGERY

We understand that many visitors to Thailand may take the opportunity to get a Tattoo. However, CosMediTour strongly encourages Clients not to get a tattoo for at least six weeks before and six weeks after their Plastic Surgery. Tattoo Blog
