Breast Lift (Mastopexty) Or Breast Lift With Implants

Is designed to correct and restore the breasts to a firmer, shapelier breast proportionate to the body. A lift generally incorporates implants and/or reduction and areola/nipple correction.

Best Candidates

  • Women with ptosis (sagging) breasts, lacking volume, substance and firmness

Hospital Consultation
During your consult with the surgeon at the Hospital the surgeon will review your full medical history and examine you - measurements of the size and shape of your breasts, quality of your skin and placement of nipples and areolas will be carefully evaluated. Communication with your surgeon is crucial in reaching realistic goals to determine desired results and if an implant will be included. Depending on your breasts there are several lift technique options and surgeons preference for your case. A mammogram may be required before surgery. (Women over 55 years may have to undergo a pre-surgery laboratory tests).

Procedure Techniques
Depending on the extent of work to be done the incision will differ. If implants are being inserted, they will generally be placed directly under the breast tissue or muscle and inserted into the breast fold.

  • Scarless Lift - involves strategically placed tiny incisions to reduce scarring. The lift is performed using an endoscope for guidance.
  • The Crescent Lift: involves removing a crescent-shaped piece of tissue above the areola and re-suturing the tissue higher. This is a minor lift for patients who have slight breast ptosis
  • Benelli Lift (peri-areolar) - is considered less invasive.  A doughnut-shaped piece of tissue around the areola is removed and the surrounding tissue is sutured to the areola.  Sometimes a little more tissue is removed above the areola (as with the crescent lift) to compensate for a lifting effect when sutured.
  • Benelli-Lollipop (vertical scar/ Lejour) - same as the Benelli (peri-areolar) but with a straight incision from areola to the breast fold/ crease. This is for those who have medium ptosis
  • Full Mastopexy (anchor) - most commonly used technique involving an anchor-shaped incision that starts at the base of the areola, vertically to the where the breast fold/crease. Nipple repositioning is necessary, where the nipple must be removed. This is considered one of the major scarring techniques, but it is sometimes necessary for severely sagging breasts
  • Lifts with an areola reduction or relocation: sometimes needed to decrease the size of the areola.

(Note: scars may stretch due to tension, poor elasticity due to age or illness, large breast implants or improper support during the healing phase.  Scar tissue may take up to a year to fully heal)
